It has only been a couple of weeks since Stingray Promotions organised a show at the UCA Bar in Canterbury, featuring Hounding, Laurence Crow + The Imaginary Band supported by Argumentum, Joe Booley and They Maywaves. A huge well done to all of the bands and men who spoke up about Mental Health problems (honestly, bravo!) especially the way that men are suppressed by social standards and general taboos . Needless to say it was a successful and fun night, every performance getting better as the night went on. If you couldn't make it down (Really, you should have been there!) then here is what you have missed, starting with the support.
The Maywaves

Kicking off the night we saw The Maywaves, for those of you who don't know who they are, they are a 4 man alternative rock band from Deal, Kent. Thursday night funky riffs filled the atmosphere, accompanied by almost Muse like (and soulfully genius) vocals. The Maywaves definitely brought a new unique sound, there wasn't a person in sight that wasn't smiling or popping their heads to the soothing yet bouncy beats. Their general performance and stage presence was warming, their music made me forget where i was as i got lost in their groove. The Maywaves is a band that if they ever do a show near you, drop your plans to go see them play, not only do their lyrics and song meanings reach out to you as a human being; they also tap into your heart, deep deep down into your musical core. Linked below is their social media, please, go give them some loving and support!
Joe Booley

Joe Booley absolutely blew my mind, second act in and I got completely lost in a 'moody' trance. Joe is a folk-rock/ indie/ songwriter from Borden. I remember loving every second of his act, his vocals are soft and tender but filled with such emotion that it was impossible to not get lost in whirlwinds of emotion. I feel as if it is impossible for anyone to say anything bad about his act at all, the music is very relaxing and mind easing. It makes you want to sit somewhere in the sun with good company and the blissful sound of Joe's voice and masterfully assembled guitar playing, floating around in the back ground. This is definitely a performance that i'm going to keep an eye out for in the future. You can keep up to date with Joe Booley on Facebook and his music is available to purchase on Bandcamp (both linked below). So go give him your support and love.
Argumentum
(own Photo)
Argumentum is a 4 man "Drunkcore" band from Kent and they were a complete mood and game changer. It seemed natural for the band to get the crowd going (even had tiniest of mosh pits going, you guys know who you are). Personally, I believe this band doesn't get as much credit as they deserve and i genuinely feel like they are going to go VERY far. Why should you love these guys I hear you ask? Well they have catchy guitar riffs, break downs and meaningful lyrics sung by an incredible nu metal style vocalist. Their team work and loyalty to each other during the set was brotherly, enough to make anyone admire. The intimacy between the crowd and the band was very real, as you can see the front man even got down off the stage to party for a while. Below is their Facebook, they also have a YouTube where you can subscribe and listen to all your favorite Argumentum tracks. Go give them love!
Laurence Crow + The Imaginary Band
(DPS Gig Photography)
Laurence, Laurence, Laurence... I don't even know where to start! Laurence and his imaginary band is an alternative acoustic/folk performance from London. All I can say is when ever you go to see him perform, be prepared for the over-whelming happy vibes ( I don't even know how such good vibes can radiate from one person!) and be prepared for shit to get crazy. Laurence's performance will be forever remembered not only for his incredible musical abilities but for leaving a permanent memory on the UCA bar, for the first double acoustic crowd surf! So please tell me what there isn't to love about fairy lights, acoustic crowd surfing and an intimate show in general. I highly recommend listening to Laurence Crow + TIB whenever you're sad, happy, angry... forget it just listen to him all the time! You can follow Laurence + TIB on Facebook, you can buy his music on Bandcamp and you can even follow him on Instagram. So go bombard him with love and tell him "Megan sent me".
Hounding
(own photo)
Hounding is a three piece Sludge/ shoe gaze band from Canterbury. Their show was just nuts! Not only did they play Adventure time (#Nerdgasm) but i couldn't keep track of where the band mates were at one time; one second Stu was on the amp, next thing you know he was on someones shoulders! Mental! With Els emotional, grungy vocals and intense guitar playing followed by Stuarts skillful bass and Toms magnificent drumming, it was quite literally a match made in heaven. Grunge isn't dead, it lives on with Hounding! The way the whole band connected with the audience bringing up very sensitive issues such as mental health (like many of the other acts) they reminded me of how awesome the music community is and how we have to take care of each other; that's something that is important nowadays. These guys deserve all the love that they can get, so go stalk their Facebook and check out their Bandcamp where you can buy their music (woop!).
That's all for today's review, once again I want to say a huge well done to everyone on the bill! It was genuinely an incredible night! Go spread the love and look after each other!
